Frequently asked questions:
This section answers questions around the IPACS Project.
Please have a look also on the questions and answers
about the client and the Web site below.
- What is IPACS good for?
If you somehow have the problem of determining and analyzing
the performance of some kind of 'very fast' computer system
the IPACS tools (benchmarks, client, Web site, repository)
will assist you in accomplishing the task.
The benchmark collection consists of meaningful
and reliable program codes which determine all
important performance aspects of your computer.
The IPACS client helps you in configuring,
compiling and running the benchmark codes and in the
interpretation of the results.
The IPACS Web site helps you in analyzing
the performance of your computer system in comparison
to other fast computer systems and in the prediction of
application performance on new or not jet buildt computer systems.
The repository stores all benchmark results and the
respective computer configurations as a data warehouse
for the analyzing tools.

Client frequently asked questions:
This section answers questions around the IPACS Client.
- Which Java version is required to run the client?
The IPACS client has been tested with Java 2, JDK 1.4 and Java 5.0 (aka JDK 1.5).
- Why can't I use Java Web Start on machines with a newer Linux Kernel 2.6.x?
This is a bug in the Java interface to the operating system.
The Bug number is
#6188963.
This will eventually be fixed in some maintenace release of Java.
- How can I use the IPACS client as anonymous user?
To use the IPACS tools, it is only required to give your computer
a uniqe name in the field "Computer Name" in the
window tab "Computer Information" (in the client).
All other items in "Site Information" are either optional or
not checked if they are meaningful.
In the communication with the repository we only record the
IP-adress of the machine running the client to avoid
tampering with results.

from the most recent computer configuration are displayed.
-
